Before joining Dalton and Associates in 2016, Ms. Kurul was a Deputy Attorney General for the State of Delaware, serving as head of the New Castle County (Statewide) Homicide unit. During that time she tried ten murder cases of which nine resulted in first- or second-degree murder convictions. In total, she brought 70 jury trials to verdict.
Prior to leading the homicide unit, she was the head of New Castle County Felony Trial Unit responsible for some of the State’s most difficult cases, and most dangerous offenders, including the prosecution of career criminals, and gang members, in all manner of conduct ranging from armed robbery to drug trafficking.
Ms. Kurul worked in a variety of roles throughout her career as a prosecutor, which began at the Delaware Attorney General’s office in 2001, including, running the Attorney General’s Community Prosecution unit under the leadership of Attorney General Beau Biden. Currently, Ms. Kurul is the lead attorney in asbestos litigation at Dalton & Associates.
Ms. Kurul was born and raised in Izmir, Turkey, and subsequently immigrated to the United States with her family in 1989. She later attended the University of Delaware where, in 1997, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology. Ms. Kurul distinguished herself while at the University of Delaware, as a recipient of a summer internship program at the A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital Research Facility, as well serving as a Professor’s Assistant in Genetics and Microbiology.
Ms. Kurul earned her juris doctorate from Villanova University School of Law, in 2001.
Ms. Kurul is currently an adjunct faculty member teaching Trial Advocacy for Rutgers School of Law, Camden, N.J. Ms. Kurul is also a faculty member for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy.
